Journalism A – 30 credits

Journalism and Society, 7.5 credits – The course provides an introduction to the role of journalism in society. It discusses how it has developed as well as how various factors influence journalism.

The Language and Form of Journalism, 7.5 credits – Through practical exercises, the course provides general training in the professional conventions of news journalism regarding language and images.

News Journalism, 7.5 credits – The course provides a theoretical foundation for reflecting on selection, representation and diversity, as well as the role of journalism in a democratic society, and also teaches the basics of covering the Swedish legal system and other public administration.

Research, 7.5 credits – Through practical exercises combined with theory, students are trained in basic digital research and verification.

Journalism B – 30 credits

Narrative Journalism in Text, 7.5 credits – Discusses collection methods, storytelling, techniques and the feature as a genre and method. Students also learn to identify and try out different types of storytelling techniques themselves.

News Journalism in Moving Images, 7.5 credits – Teaches the basics of producing journalism in moving images, with a focus on news journalism.

Short Internship and News Journalism in Audio, 7.5 credits – Students complete a short internship at an independent news editorial office. Students also learn the basics of producing journalism in audio.

Audio Journalism, 7.5 credits – Provides further in-depth knowledge within audio journalism.

Media Technology B – 30 credits

Design Criticism, 3 credits – Teaches working and learning methods for development through quality assessment.

Graphic Design, 4,5 credits – Covers and deepens theoretical and practical knowledge within the fields of graphic design, visual rhetoric, layout, typography and communication.

Studio Production and Live Reporting, 7,5 credits – Covers and deepens knowledge within live TV production using multi-camera systems, post-production in relevant tools, as well as knowledge of live broadcasting using mobile technology. The course also covered advanced knowledge of audio production for television, radio and podcasts.

Visualisation, 3 credits – Covers illustration and visualisation with a focus on news graphics, data visualisation and TV graphics.

Web Design, 7,5 credits – Covers basic methods and techniques for user-centered development and design for the web, based on web publishing through CMS (content management systems).

Specialisation, 7,5 credits – A course module that gave the student the opportunity to further specialise in an area of media technology relevant to journalism. For me, this was through advanced knowledge in web design, podcast production, graphic design and video segments.

Philosophy: Introductory Course – 30 credits

Introduction to Philosophy, 7.5 credits – Shows the nature of specifically philosophical questions and philosophical reasoning and provides you with a basic philosophical toolkit.

Political philosophy, 7.5 credits – Covers, among other things, the legitimacy of state power, how the state should be governed, what its role should be and where the limits of its power should lie.

Epistemology, 7.5 credits – Covers central problems in analytical-philosophical epistemology, including social epistemology.

Philosophy of Science, 7.5 credits – Addresses fundamental questions in the philosophy of science concerning a broad range of scientific disciplines, as well as epistemological, metaphysical and ethical questions arising from the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

English I – 30 credits

Introduction to English, 7.5 credits – Focuses specifically on English vocabulary and grammar in academic communication.

Linguistics 1, 7.5 credits – Introduces basic concepts relevant to describing the structure and use of English in areas such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics.

Reading Literature, 7.5 credits – Students study literary texts in English from different genres in order to learn basic literary concepts and analytical methods.

Media Production B – 30 credits

Data Journalism, 7.5 credits – Trains students in the different stages of the data journalism process, from data collection to publication, while continuously reflecting on journalistic considerations and methodological choices.

TV/Moving Image Reporting, 7.5 credits – Storytelling techniques in theory and practice are combined with exercises in journalistic idea development, research and interview techniques, as well as the use of tools and methods for presenting journalistic material in moving images.

Editorial Work in Digital Media, 7.5 credits – Explores editorial organisation and leadership, as well as opportunities for interaction with readers on social media, both practically and theoretically. Students are also trained in the production and publication of various combined media formats in an editorial environment.

Investigative Journalism Project, 7.5 credits – A self-selected project based on the student’s own qualified research and carried through to a completed presentation for digital media.
